Message from David Plouffe: "What are you doing tomorrow?"
In 1994, Congress transformed the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday into a national day of community service to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others. As a tribute to that legacy and the very real needs of our nation, the President-elect and Vice President-elect have launched a national organizing effort on the eve of their Inauguration to engage Americans in service.
This morning, David Plouffe sent out a message inviting supporters to help begin the work of rebuilding this country, starting in your own community:
In your neighborhood and in thousands of communities across the country, Americans are answering President-elect Obama’s call to service.
Tomorrow, January 19th, our nation will come together in a shared spirit of community. And I wanted to make sure you know how to participate.
Monday is not only the eve of an inauguration that brings all of us so much hope, it’s also Martin Luther King Jr. Day — when we recognize the power of one man to bring about change by serving his country.
